We hope you had an enjoyable summer holiday and here are a few updates from us and our portfolio.

Ascension named UK’s Most Active Impact Investor by Beauhurst

Ascension is honoured to be acknowledged by Beauhust as the most active UK impact fund, a feat underscored by our Fair By Design fund ranking third as well.

Ascension was a generalist fund between 2015 and 2018, but our focus shifted towards investing in impact-driven tech businesses that aim to tackle global challenges. We believed in the potential of these ventures to yield both profit and purpose, and the results have been impressive.

Beauhurst’s findings reveal that companies backed by impact investors are more resilient, with significantly lower failure rates. This echoes our experiences, among our 12 exits to date, the weighted average of cash returned to investors for our tech for good businesses is at almost double.

Meet Remy, Ascension Partner

Remy Minute was the founder and CEO of CSC Media Group Ltd, the largest privately owned portfolio of television channels in the UK - which he sold to Sony Pictures Television in 2014.

He has worked in broadcast and technology for nearly 25 years and is an active angel investor as well as Chairman of Narrative Entertainment Ltd - owner of the Great! and POP! network of TV and FAST channels. Remy has been a Partner at Ascension since 2018 and is responsible for leading our Tax Efficient Pre-Seed and Seed Funds with Sonia George and Toyosi Ogedengbe.

The objective of the Ascension Tech Funds is to invest in innovative UK high-growth technology companies, whilst also seeking capital appreciation with the added advantages to investors of the tax reliefs offered under SEIS and EIS.

Emma featured on the EUVC podcast

Tune into EUVC to hear Emma’s (Ascension Partner) thoughts about how to foster more robust societies through intertwined strategies of impact and return.

Impact is just a lens, it's doing investing with a specific intent. The journey I take people on is actually, through this intent, through this lens, you can drive more commercial value down the line. Some people are easy to convince on that, and for others it is just not their philosophy".

Toyosi interviewed on the Nothing Ventured podcast

It was great to see Toyosi (Ascension Principal) interviewed by Aarish Shah on the Nothing Ventured podcast. Click here to learn more about his journey, experience and investment focus within our team.
